Munich American has recently reorganized in order to focus on responding in unique ways to customer needs and providing unparalleled access to risk management and actuarial expertise. Each department is fully responsible for client relationships, pricing, treaties and research. All areas are supported by underwriting, medical and administrative areas with specific expertise.

Life Reinsurance

Life reinsurance is the original service provided by MARC and continues to be the foundation of the company. This department is responsible for all aspects of life and annuity reinsurance. Marketing officers and actuaries in this area coordinate with the Living Benefits department to support Life or Annuity/Long Term Care "Combo" products.

Living Benefits Reinsurance

MARC is the premier provider of individual and multi-life disability and long term care reinsurance in the United States. Today, MARC is the leader in developing and reinsuring “Combo” products of either life insurance policies or deferred annuities with long term care insurance riders. The department is led by Andy Castillo, Vice President & Actuary.

Group and Credit Reinsurance

MARC entered the group reinsurance market in 1962 and the credit market in 1977. Today, this department is responsible for all group life, AD&D, and LTD reinsurance as well as credit life and disability reinsurance. In 2007, MARC began developing and reinsuring a new credit product, Involuntary Unemployment Insurance (IUI), through a special captive subsidiary. The department is led by Tom Penn-David, Vice President.

Risk Assessment Services

For nearly 50 years, MARC underwriters have focused on providing clients with sound and profitable risk assessments. Underwriting and medical staff is located in both Atlanta and Chicago. Beginning January 2008, MARC will begin offering increased capacity on a select basis as part of the Munich Re global retention. Don Lanier, Vice President, is the chief underwriter.

MARC has four full-time medical directors. They have over 60 years of combined experience in insurance medicine. The medical directors are involved in both underwriting and medical research.

Support Departments

These departments focus on MARC’s internal operations; however, they are an excellent source of information regarding trends in financial reporting, regulation, taxes and information security. The Corporate Information Sytems department is responsible for assisting clients who transmit electronic data to do so in a secure environment.
