MARC Manager Contributes to New LOMA Text

Tom Penn-David
ATLANTA, September 4, 2001—Tom Penn-David, Second Vice President at Munich American, was part of a group of industry experts who helped LOMA develop a new textbook on capital management. As a volunteer member of the Capital Management textbook review panel, Tom shared his industry experience and expertise with LOMA. Specifically, he devoted his own time to reviewing the book’s chapter on the role of reinsurance in capital management for insurance companies, providing feedback that helped ensure the book’s accuracy and relevance to the industry.
As an industry association, LOMA relies on volunteer experts like Tom to help produce high-quality textbooks, such as Capital Management for Insurance Companies. By participating on this textbook review panel, Tom has helped current and future industry employees to have a better chance of understanding the importance of reinsurance to the industry.
The book, Capital Management for Insurance Companies, is an assigned text for the capstone course in LOMA’s FLMI Education Program, FLMI 371–Managing for Solvency and Profitability in Life Insurance Companies. The course also assigns another LOMA textbook, Product Design for Life Insurance and Annuities. The examination for the course is currently available on-line, and the next paper examination will be administered in November 2001.
Last year, MARC staffers participated in the development of another LOMA textbook, Reinsurance Administration. Randall Benton was a member of the textbook development panel and reviewed the entire textbook. Randy additionally recruited the following colleagues to lend their expertise to various chapters of the textbook:
- Sig Brekke
- Priscilla Brigham
- Helen Reese
- Bobbie Hewatt
- Meg Pope
